The various attributions that this painting received in the course of time were finally not convincing. However, the important artists being considered speak for its quality. Possibly, figures and landscape were created by different painters, as was already suspected by Sotheby's in 1999. At that time, this landscape was attributed to Cornelis Molenaer.
