A boxwood netsuke of an oni burning moxa, by Tôzan. First half 19th century

The muscular oni with two large horns and a skin apron looks disgruntled as he is burning a ball of mogusa at a spot below the knee (sanri). This cauterisation is supposed to alleviate general pains. Moxa of black wood. Signed Tôzan.
