A LATE 15TH CENTURY CARVED WOOD HIGH RELIEF GROUP OF ANNA SELBDRITT, PROBABLY UPPER RHINE-REGION

Holz, ältere Fassung, Verlust in der Mitte hinterlegt

A late 15th century carved group of Anna Selbdritt, probably Upper Rhine-Region, the reverse flattened, with old polychromy, partly retouched. Silhouetted relief, partly carved in full round. The crowned Virgin and her mother, Saint Ann, sitting on a throne, holding the naked Child who is standing on their knees. Saint Ann passes Him an apple whilst the Virgin passes an open book to Him. The group is partially carved in full round, with a harmonious composition enlivened by a dynamic play of drapery.
Small loss in the center behind the Child, covered with canvas. Minor wear. 50 x 41 x 11 cm.
