Carl Wilhelm Kolbe the Elder

FOREST WITH LARGE OAKS AND DENSE UNDERWOOD

Pen and brush and brown ink. 50 x 38 cm.

A fine, bright and characteristic work of the draughtsman and etcher Cal Wilhelm Kolbe the Elder. In his early career between 1780 and 1800 Kolbe found his motifs in the forests surrounding Dessau, hence the nickname "Eichen-Kolbe (oak Kolbe)". Later he became member of the academy in Berlin and teacher to outstanding artists such as Franz Krüger and the Olivier brothers.
