Ivory, South German, mid 17th C. (GR 2.246) FRAMED
Wear with minor losses, yellowing to the edges. Height 14 cm.

A 17th century South German carved ivory relief of Saint Mary Magdalene. A silhouetted high-relief, the hair partially openwork, the reverse flattened. A half-figure depiction of the Saint turned to the left and holding an ointment jar. Her nakedness is covered both by a cloth draped around her body and by her long finely worked curls.
