Wood, original polychromy, circle of Giovanni Giuliani c. 1730/1740 (originally Oertel coll.)
The front of the right foot and the toes of the left foot lost, the raised forearm is loosely attached. With wear and losses to the polychromy. Height 125 cm.

A limewood figure of Saint Sebastian, from the circle of Giovanni Giuliani, circa 1730/1740, with original polychromy, the silver since oxydised. The body of the Saint leans against a tree with legs crossed and the head facing upwards, his lowered right arm is bound to a branch and the left hand is raised. The composition of this piece is comparable to the works created by Giovanni Giuliani for Heiligenkreuz Abbey in Austria around 1730/1740.

Dr. Richard Oertel collection, Munich (purchased 1916 from the art dealer Hüttinger in Straubing). - Sold in 191th Neumeister Auction, Munich, 5.11.1979, lot 46. - Since then private collection, Westphalia.
