A MID 18TH CENTURY FIGURE OF GOD THE FATHER, PRESUMABLY LOWER BAVARIAN

Wood, old polychromy, fingers partially lost, probably Lower Bavaria, mid 18th C.
Some fingers lost, worn. 82 x 72 x 46 cm.

A mid 18th century figure of God the Father, presumably Lower Bavarian. The back flattened and hollowed out, with an old, presumably original polychromy, partially reworked to the head. The half-figure sculpture is depicted gazing upwards, with arms outstretched and clothed in a voluminous pleated robe. It is designed as a seated figure and was presumably originally part of a carved altar.

Provenance

Private collection, Northern Germany.
