With minimal wear. Height 32 cm.

A terracotta bust of the philosopher Democritus. On a high plinth. This bust of a laughing man with drapery over his shoulders and wearing a fur hat depicts the ancient philosopher Democritus, whose world view was marked by optimism. The terracotta is presumably based on a design by J. Chr. L. Lücke, made circa 1750.
