Black and white chalk, mounted on thin cardboard. 30 x 24.5 cm.

This drawing is a study for Menzel's series of 12 woodcuts entitled "Aus König Friedrichs Zeit. Kriegs- und Friedenshelden", published in Berlin by Alexander Duncker in 1856. (see: E. Bock: Verzeichnis des graphischen Werkes Adolph Menzels, 1923, Nr. 1069).
