Otto Dill
Obstplantagengarten
1940
Oil on canvas 60 x 80 cm Framed. Signed and dated 'Otto Dill 1940' lower left. - Overall good original condition. The edges partly rubbed due to framing. Professionally cleaned.
This painting has clearly been influenced by French Impressionism. In 1930 Professor Otto Dill moved from Munich to Neustadt an der Weinstraße, where he primarily created images of the landscape directly surrounding him: Orchards, vineyards and fields as well as views of Neustadt, Niederkirchen and Bad Dürkheim, where the artist later moved permanently in 1941. The expansive landscape has been captured on the canvas with a confident brushstroke. Its tonality fascinates viewers through the harmonious contrast of complementary colours, which is realised in richly varied greens and a glowing red and is moderated through a light-filled blue and white. An address label on the reverse documents that the painting had been either in the possession of the artist or else in the estate archive of Emmy Dorothea Dill.
