A 15th century Italian ceremonial cross.

Wooden body with engraved and gilt copper mountings and cast and gilt figural appliques.. A ceremonial cross, probably based on Venetian designs. Grouped around the central depictions of the crucified Christ and God the Father are gilt appliques showing the Virgin, Saint John, Mary Magdalene, God the Father and the symbols of the Evangelists, which have probably been replaced and the arrangement of which has probably been ammended throughout the ages. The wooden pole with original silk covering is inscribed with the inventory no. "W.M. XXI 8".
The crucifix is a later addition. Rubbed and with minor wear. Height 75 cm, width 37 cm, height with pole 190 cm.
