A large Berlin KPM porcelain vase with a fruit still life.

On a fire-gilt bronze base inlaid with a porcelain plaque. Vase with rosette form handles, lapis blue ground with gilt veins, the front bearing a gilt framed rectangular reserve containing a finely painted still life after a Dutch design.
The base with a relief palmette frieze, inscribed to the front “To the councilman and chamberlain of the capital and residential city of Berlin – Mr. Heinrich Friedrich Ludwig Falckeberg – on the day of 50th year of his service – the 17th July 1839. – The officers of the magistrate and the city deputations.” (from the German). Blue sceptre mark with KPM, red imperial orb mark. Some wear to the gilding of the bronze base. H of vase 69 cm, with base 97 cm.
1839.

Heinrich Falckenberg (1771 - 1845) was head of Berlin's city dept accounts as of 1810. In this position he was able to quickly restructure the city's finances just a short time after the German campaign. For these services he was promptly named second honorary citizen of Berlin in 1815.
