Hermann van der Mast

Portrait of a Gentleman Portrait of a Lady

Oil on panel. Each 96 x 67.5 cm.
Inscribed and dated upper right: Anno 1587/Aetatis 36, H. Inscribed and dated upper left: Anno 1587/Aetatis 26.

Both of these portraits, especially that of the man, are comparable to a pair of works signed by Hermann van der Mast and dated 1589 which were on permanent loan from a private collection to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam until 1996 (inv. no. SK-C-616).
