A probably Central Rhenish carved wooden relief of three angels among clouds, second half 15th century.

The reverse flattened. With partially overpainted older polychromy. An openwork relief of three angels hovering over a stylised cloud bank, holding a banderole inscribed “Gloria in excelsis Deo”. This charming and finely carved piece probably originally belonged to a depiction of the birth of Christ.
With an older breakage to the lower right of the cloud band. Wear with minor losses to the polychromy, old insect damage to the clouds. 33 x 34 x 7 cm.
