Probably Central Rhine Region 2nd half 15th century

A probably Central Rhenish carved wooden figure of the Virgin Enthroned, 2nd half 15th century.

Carved three quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. With partially overpainted older polychromy.. A devotional image of the enthroned Madonna, designed for a slightly lowered viewpoint. The blessing Christ Child is shown sitting on His mother's lap whilst She hands him an apple.
A narrow vertical crack to the lower front. Wear with losses to the polychromy. Older insect damage to the reverse. Height 42 cm.
