Lower Rhine Region early 16th century

An early 16th century Lower Rhenish carved oak figure of an angel holding a candlestick.

Carved in the round, with minor remains of former polychromy. A standing figure of an angel on a moulded hexagonal plinth, depicted with eyes lowered and holding a candlestick in upraised hands to the right. The figure's swaying pose is accentuated by the folds of the long, plain garment.
The wings, which were formerly set into the figure's back, are lost. Minor wear. Height 40 cm (without pricket).
