Probably Westphalia 2nd half 14th century

A presumably Westphalian carved ivory diptych, 2nd half 14th century.

The outer panels of the diptych are plain and uncarved, and the raised and partially deeply undercut depictions to the inner compartments are framed by plain borders. The right panel shows Christ on the cross, and the left panel the Virgin Mary amid angels carrying candles. Both depictions are canopied by a single gothic arch with crockets to the pediment.
The panels connected via two hinges and a clasp to the side. With several vertical hairline cracks, one crocket to the upper right of the right panel lost. Each panel 7.1 x 5.2 cm.
