A French carved ivory plaque depicting the deposition of Christ, 2nd half 15th century.

With minor remains of older, possibly original, polychromy and gilding. A thin plaque with a moulded border surrounding a high-relief depiction of the deposition of Christ with Mary, Saint John, Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea. The scene is bordered to the top by a curved ogee arch decorated with crockets and resting on round, slender columns.
A small, drilled hole to the upper edge, otherwise in perfect condition. Yellowed. 8.2 x 6.0 cm.
