Probably Central Germany circa 1500/1510

A presumably Central German carved wooden figure of the Virgin and Child, circa 1500/1510.

The reverse flattened. With older, partially overpainted polychromy.. A full-figure depiction of the Virgin standing on the crescent moon, designed for a frontal and slightly lowered viewpoint. She holds the nude Christ Child over Her hip with Her right hand. The sculpture's composition is largely defined by the rich interplay of compressed and vertical folds and the curving seams of the golden cloak drawn across the Virgin's body.
The Child's arms and the right tip of the crescent moon lost. Wear with losses to the polychromy. Height 112 cm.
