Brown ink and brown and grey wash. 30.2 x 20 cm.
Framed.

This full-sized study, showing a close-up depiction on the left and opening up onto a distant, rocky panorama on the right, stands firmly in the Flemish tradition. It is stylistically comparable to Bril's earlier, smaller landscape in the Colonna Collection in Rome, which was made in circa 1595 (F. Capeletti: Paul Bril 2005, no. 32).
