Northern France, 14th century
A 14th century Northern French carved ivory relief of the Virgin with Child
Minimal remains of former polychromy. This fine relief is presumably the product of a Parisian workshop and depicts the standing Virgin with the Christ Child accompanied by two angels carrying candles beneath a Gothic arch and canopy.
With some vertical hairline cracks. Three drilled holes to the upper edge, with a minor breakage to the edge. Slightly yellowed. 9.5 x 5 cm.
