A Flemish carved wood figure of Christ Carrying the Cross, circa 1480/90

Carved in the round, the reverse only summarily. Extensive remains of presumably original polychromy. This finely carved work depicts Christ facing right, wearing the crown of thorns and a long, girded robe. He holds the cross, which He carries over His bent shoulders, with both hands. This devotional piece could originally have formed part of a larger figural altarpiece.
A crack to the right hand, beside the left shoulder and in the vertical beam of the cross. Some minor wear. Height 37 cm.
