In the oeuvre of the Belgian artist Walter Leblanc torsions are considered the leitmotif. In this group of works, vertical bands are spanned across the canvas creating a harmonious pattern with their twisting parallel lines. Furthermore, the spirals of the individual bands, here polyvinyl, create a three-dimensional structure suggesting a 'virtual movement'.
'Leblanc's works are programmed compositions based on a functional structure. They develop in consecutive series, from compositions to variations. Hence, one can say that his art is serial and progressive, developing within succession. It is based on the action, reaction, and interaction of its elements, a virtual movement is released in the modulated zones. Due to its dynamism, Leblanc's work ranks in the long line of kinetic-visual, constructivist art. It is to be attributed to the category of virtual movement, as Frank Hopper defined it, contrary to real movement: “These works that are still connected to static art due to a minor detail - to art in which movement or pace merely becomes distinguishable following a process of intensive perception and contemplation”.' (Phil Mertens, Einheit zwischen dem Ich, dem Raum, der Zeit und der Materie, in: Nicole Leblanc und Danielle Everarts de Velp-Seynaeve (ed.), Walter Leblanc, Catalogue Raisonné, Brügge 1997, p.121).
