Keith Haring

Pyramid sculpture
1989

Aluminium, anodised. 144 x 144 x 75 cm. Mounted on wooden plinth. Signed and dated 'K.Haring 89' engraved on the inside with artist's signum and inscribed 'PP' (engraved). Numbered PP. One of two printer's proofs aside from the numbered edition of 15 (+6A.P.). Edition Schellmann, Munich (engraved edition note on the inside).

The archaic building form of the pyramid is a recurring motif in the semiotics of the artist Keith Haring. With his characteristic artistic language, he belongs to the pioneers of the American street art movement of the 1980s.
The three dimensional object ''Pyramid Sculpture'' consists of an edition of fifteen examples, made up of four aluminium panels. The tapering form creates a suitable analogy for his closely arranged and interlaced drawings, which give Keith Haring's characteristic motifs striking expression. Inspired by the pharaoh's tombs, he places a single figure at each the point of the triangle, as if enthroned above their hieroglyphic labyrinth like a god.
