Alpenländisch late 15th century

Two late 15th century carved wooden figures of the Virgin and Saint John, Alpine Region

Carved in the round. Extensive remains of partially overpainted but presumably partially original older polychromy. The Virgin is depicted with Her head bowed and Her hands folded in prayer whilst the youthful Saint John looks towards the beholder with his right hand aloft. The figures were presumably intended as part of a crucifixion group.
Some vertical cracks to the figure of the Virgin. Minor wear. Mounted on associated wooden plinths. Each 29.5 cm high (without plinths).
