A Parisian regulator portico clock

Mahogany veneer with ormolu mountings. White enamel dial with blacked iron hands beneath domed glass. 14-day movement with lever escapement and large gridiron pendulum. Stepped cornice resting on four columns. The clock movement visible within a large transparent glass cylinder. Signed to the dial "Mugnier Hr. de Monsieur Frère du Roi", stamped "Pigneret" beneath the cornice in cursive script. H 53, W 29 cm.
The clock made by Mugnier Jeune, active 1810 - 30, the case attributed to the ebenist Marin Pigneret.

Literature

Ledoux-Lebard lists two Pignerets - father and son - without illustrating their stamp. However in this case, only the father comes into question as the maker of this clock case (Le Mobilier français du XIXe siècle, Paris 2000, p. 522).
