A mid-15th century Nottingham alabaster relief of the Adoration of the Magi

Minimal remains of former polychromy. A high-relief depiction of the Virgin lain beneath a canopy holding the Christ Child in Her lap. Jesus is shown grasping for the chalice being handed to him by the kneeling king. The two other kings wait behind him with their gifts together with a further figure from their retinue, forming a closed compositional group. St. Joseph with the ox and ass and a shepherd with his sheep are depicted below the Virgin.
Minimal wear. Mounted on a black wooden plinth with back panel. 43 x 32 x 5 cm.
