Probably Upper Rhine-Region 2nd half 15th century

A carved wooden figure of Christ resurrected, probably Upper Rhine-Region, 2nd half 15th century

Carved in the round. With extensive remains of overpainted older polychromy. A finely carved figure of Christ with the stigmata standing on a plinth. He holds His right hand aloft in blessing and with His left He gestures towards the wound in His side. The rays of light which would have eminated from around Christ's head now lacking. The fine quality of this piece is particularly evident in the depiction of the cloak and its cascade of drapery falling to one side.
A minor loss to the left side of the plinth. Minimal wear. Height 30.5 cm.
