Frederik Hendrik Hendriks resided in his hometown of Arnheim his whole life. However, he also took regular trips to nearby Amsterdam, sometimes for periods of several months. In the last years of his life, he was head of the Arnheim drawing school. As a landscape painter, Hendriks tended to draw his motifs from the Gelderland region. His works were displayed in numerous contemporary exhibitions in the Netherlands and Northern Germany. The composition and the depiction of the leaves in this large-format piece are characteristic of this painter.
