The Royal Ascot trophy from 1883

The finial formed as the British coat-of-arms beneath St. Edward's Crown flanked by the lion and the unicorn and with the English royal device "DIEU ET MON DROIT". With a dedication inscription "THE GIFT OF HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN / ASCOT / WON BY BORDER M H 49 cm, weight 6,800 g.

The three year old English thoroughbred stallion Border Minstrel was the winner of the Queen's Vase race in May 1883.
