Friedrich Wilhelm II., Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1819 - 1904), was married to Princess Augusta Caroline of Cambridge, Princess of England, Ireland, and Hanover (1822 - 1916), grand-daughter of the British King George III. The service appears to have been a present from the British royal family. Several silver gilt plates and items of cutlery by this master from the royal couple's personal dessert service have also survived.
