A late 15th century carved wood figure of the Virgin and Child, probably Central Rhine Region

Carved in the round. With partially overpainted older polychomy. A standing full-figure depiction of the Virgin standing in contrapposto. The nude Christ Child in Her ams is shown holding an apple in one hand and blessing with the other. The figure's sculptural quality is largely defined by the play of drapery of the Madonna's cloak, which consists of long vertical pleats and deeply rounded folds.
A vertical crack to the back of the head. A horizontal crack to the left of the figure, close to the lower horizontal fold. Overall wear. Height 90 cm.
