A West German carved wooden pietà group, 2nd half 15th century

Carved three-quarters in the round and partially freestanding, the reverse flattened and hollowed out. With presumably original older polychromy, overpainted in some areas. A small and finely carved devotional piece depicting the Virgin seated on a rocky outcrop holding the body of Christ in Her lap turned slightly towards the beholder.
Christ's left forearm lacking. Very minimal wear. Height 34 cm.
