A Tibetan thangka of a dalai lama. 18th/19th century

Seated in vajrasana on a brocade-covered cushion with his hands in vitarka-mudra and holding a dharmacakra wheel, wearing voluminous robes and a pointed cap of the Gelukpa order, flanked by Amitayus and the Green Tara, Tsongkhapa at the top centre, and Palden Lhamo flanked by two dalai lamas to the lower register. Inscriptions to the reverse. Gouache and gold on cloth. Brocade mounting, with small damages. Losses of pigments, thin areas and few minor cracks. Framed and glazed.
