A Tibetan thangka of Vajrapani. 19th century

Vajrapani, who is entrusted by the Buddha to protect the tantras, stands in warrior pose over a lotus with his consort in yab-yum, holding a vajra and a ghanta in his hands, surrounded by ten garudas who bite the heads off captured snakes, and various Buddhas, bodhisattvas and teachers at the top and bottom. Inscription to the reverse. Gouache on cloth. Framed and glazed. Some wear.
