A portrait miniature of a Biedermeier lady

Gouache on ivory. Half-figure portrait of a lady in a pink dress. In a gilt metal frame. Signed and dated lower left: Gaupman 1824 (?)". 11.8 x 9.5 cm. Frame 12.3 x 10.3 cm.
Rudolf Gaupmann, Vienna 1821 (?).

The draughtsman, lithographer, and miniaturist Gaupmann studied at the Vienna Academy as of 1828. He also worked as a drawing master to the children of Prince Metternich.

Provenance

Berlin private collection. - Acquired in 1991 from Kunsthandel Anna Maria Wager, Munich. - Exhibited at the Kunstmesse Orangerie, Berlin, October 1991.
