An early Iranian mortar

Cast bronze with high copper content and copper inlays, dark brown patina and traces of green corrosion. Of waisted form, the base and rim each with four cartouches containing Kufic calligraphy. Two rows of teardrops surrounding ten rhombus motifs. The base worn through and cracked. H 14.8, D 15.9 cm. Weight 6.6 kg.
12th - 13th C.
