An early Iranian mortar

Cast bronze with high copper content, engraved and inlaid with copper, brown patina with traces of green corrosion. Cylindrical form, the waisted base and rim decorated with Kufic calligraphy. Two rows of six teardrops surrounding a band of six rhombus motifs. The engraved base inlaid with a six-pointed star. H 11.4, D 13.2 cm. Weight 3.8 kg.
