A large French Régency cartel clock

Tortoiseshell with engraved brass inlays on oak corpus, ormolu mountings, Roman numerals on twelve enamel cartouches, blued steel hands, glazing. 14-day running with verge escapement, thread suspension, lock plate and hourly striking on a bell. Rare oscillation limiter. Very finely inlaid case with scrollwork and bracket motifs, the back opening with a sailing ship. Opulent bronze mountings with tritons at the angles and dolphins above, relief garland, shell, and flowerhead motifs throughout. The front with a female figure beneath a canopy, the finial formed as a winged figure of Chronos and a personification of Fame blowing a trumpet, the globe defective. The cartouche beneath the dial signed "I.F. Larsé A Paris". Older repairs to the marquetry, minor losses, the pendulum and some smaller pieces replaced. H 110.5, W 62, D 22 cm.
