A rare pair of gondola chairs with zoomorphic decor

Gold painted wood, upholstery with modern green velvet covers. Unusual and finely carved frames, the curved front legs formed as bundles of acanthus, the back legs of square section and curved backwards. The sides carved as chimaeras with the bodies of snakes, the heads of birds, and the tails of dolphins. H 84.5, W c. 54, seat depth c. 30 cm.
Attributed to Russia, late 18th C.
