A late 15th century Brabantine carved oak relief with the pensive Christ

The reverse flattened. Minimal remains of former polychromy.. This pierced high-relief devotional image shows Christ with the crown of thorns upon His head, sitting with hands folded in a moment of rest during His Passion. The fine quality of the carving is particularly evident in the sophisticated drapery of Christ's floor-length robe.
Wear with minor losses. Short vertical cracks to the base. Mounted on a velvet covered wooden plinth. 39.5 x 30.5 x 8.5 cm..
