Netherlands around 1600

A Netherlandish carved wooden relief with scenes from the Old Testament, around 1600

Formed from two connected horizontal beams.. The two densely populated scenes are surrounded by a border of scrollwork and strapwork interspersed with angels and hanging garlands of fruit. The work presumably originally formed the front panel of a chest, with the lion's mouth in the upper centre forming the keyhole.
Small losses and war. On the reverse stabilised through a pair of bars. 58 x 150 x 4 cm.
