A boxwood netsuke of a leaping hare. 19th century

Landing on its forepaws with the hind paws still high up in the air, the ears flapping. Very finely engraved fur, the whole animal stained black but rubbed at the nose, thighs and front of the paws due to wear, giving an attractive contrast. Signed Toyomasa in an oval reserve.
