A boxwood netsuke of a bundle. Early 19th century

A bundle of horsetails with long stalks, tied together for drying. Finely carved and with finely engraved, partly darkly accentuated cobs and leaves. Signed Haruchika on an oval reserve.
Height 7.5 cm

Provenance

Estate of Albert Brockhaus (1855 – 1921)

Literature

Brockhaus, p. 453, no. 1129
Cf. MCI, p. 127 where the listing of the carver in the Sôken kishô is mentioned. The present piece, however, was created rather in the early 19th century, but is nevertheless a very rare, original and appealing depiction.
