A Meissen porcelain tureen lid from the service made for the Teutonic Order

The finial formed as a lemon surrounded by flowers, almonds, a cinnamon stick and cloves. 14 in purple. Minor chips to the appliqués. Inner D 16.4 cm.
Ca. 1745, model by Johann Friedrich Eberlein.

Prince-Bishop of Cologne Clemens August of Bavaria (1700 – 1761) was, among numerous other offices, also “administrator of the Hochmeistertum” and “Deutschmeister” of the Teutonic Order from 1732 onwards. It is assumed that this service was produced upon his suggestion.

Provenance

Collection of Renate and Tono Dreßen.
