A rare Meissen porcelain dish with Dutch vedutas

Scalloped dish decorated with finely painted water landscapes and sumptuous floral swags tied by blue ribbons. The inner surface with gilt lace edging and a bouquet of naturalistic flowers. Blue crossed swords mark with dot, pressnummer 10. Restored over a breaking running through the entire piece, with a restored rim chip. H 8.2, W 24.5 cm.
1772 - 74.

In addition to the so-called Stadhouder service, which Willem V (1748 - 1806) received as governor of the Netherlands around 1772 - 1774 as a gift from the Dutch East India Company, a second service with similar decorations based on it was created at the same time, to which this large bowl also belongs. Unlike the labelled views on the governor's service, the topographies here are not accompanied by inscriptions on the undersides of the items, making the identification of the scene shown on this bowl more difficult.
Dishes from the second service are extremely rare: In 2019, Bonhams in London sold two small bowls (on December 4th 2019, lot 58). One plate is housed in the Kestner Museum in Hanover, as well as a large bowl from the collection Renate and Tono Dreßen auctioned by Lempertz in November 2020.
Abraham L. den Blaauwen explains in his monograph "Het Meissen servies van Stadhouder Willem de Vijfde" in detail the genesis of the governor's service and also illustrates a bowl from the second, related service (pp. 33 - 36).
