South German Late 17th century

A late 17th century South German pax with Christ at the Column

Partially pierced. A very thinly carved ivory panel depicting the scourging of Christ in high relief. The upper part of the moulded frame is decorated by garlands of flowers and fruit crowned by a winged angel's head. The curved handle on the reverse is also carved from ivory.
Some vertical hairline cracks. Minor discolouration in some areas. Height 18 cm. Depth with handle 5.5 cm.
