Fürstenberg porcelain busts of Duke Carl of Brunswick-Lüneburg and Princess Augusta Dorothea

Two Classical style portrait busts on fluted columns hung with golden draperies. Impressed horse mark and W No. 2, the princess with impressed horse mark and W. The base of the duke's bust with a glued repair, with a firing crack and rim chips. H ca. 23 cm.
Models attributed to Carl Gottlieb Schubert, 1777 and 1780.

These busts depict a father and daughter. Duke Karl I (1713 – 1780), Prince of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, had 13 children with Philippine Charlotte von Preußen (1716 – 1801). His portrait was probably sculpted posthumously. His second youngest daughter Augusta Dorothea (1749 – 1810) became dean of Quedlinburg abbey in 1776 and of Gandersheim in 1777. Carl Gottlieb Schubert (active at the manufactory from 1778 to 1808) presumably modelled her portrait upon this occasion.
