A Meissen porcelain cup and saucer with scenes from Goethe's 'Young Werther'

The cup painted with a depiction of Werther and Lotte at the piano, the lid with a pair of doves amid clouds, one of the birds having been shot with an arrow. The saucer painted with Lotte and the pistols accompanied by Albert in the background at his desk. Blue crossed swords mark with star, gold S. A glued breakage to the saucer. H with lid 10.5, D of saucer 13.7 cm.
Circa 1790.

"The depiction on the saucer follows the etching ""Pressentiment de Lolotte"" by Morange after S. Amand, that of the cup the ""Sorrows of Werter"" by Francesco Bartolozzi.
The porcelain painter in question is Johann David Schubert (1761-1822), who was a teacher at the factory's drawing school from 1786 and was appointed principal painter at the factory in 1795."
