A Meissen porcelain cup and saucer with the angel from Raphael's Sixtine Madonna

Cylindrical cup and cover painted with arabesques after Viennese designs. The saucer painted with a similar design throughout and labelled below "d´après l'original de Raphael, dans la Gallerie de Son Altesse Electorale de Saxe." Blue crossed swords mark with star, blue marks in the basal rings, dreher's marks. H with lid 9.7, D of saucer 13.9 cm.
Circa 1800 – 1810.

The painting by Raphael was acquired by King August III in January 1754 and was one of the most important works to be acquired for his gallery in the Dresden Zwinger. The two young angels at the lower edge of the painting have been reproduced many times.
